Taxed enough rally planned

Another Taxed Enough Already gathering is set for McAlester — this time at the Rotary Park Amphitheater. Organizers of the event are hosting a Fourth of July gathering from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday at the park, which is adjacent to the J.I. Stipe Center at Ninth Street and Monroe Avenue.

On June 11 the Antek Homa no. 2 Order of the Eastern Star welcomed Tammi Bedford as their newest member. The organization is a charitable and social organization open to men and women; however, one must be related to a Mason to join.
Loman ordained; will serve as pastor for Missouri church

Clifton Ronald Loman, of Haileyville, was ordained as a pastor in the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod in a special worship service on June 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Krebs.

Offices set to close for Independence Day

Many city, county and state offices will be closed due to the Independence Day holiday. City of McAlester offices will be keeping regular weekday office hours. However, due to the holiday, the McAlester Landfill will be closed on Saturday. Garbage will not be picked up on Saturday.
Coal Creek work is set

No signed contract is yet in hand, but repair work is expected to start next week on the Coal Creek Bridge, between McAlester and Tannehill. The job is expected to result in the temporary closing of the bridge for at least four days.
Big plans for the Fourth

It’s almost time for the sixth annual Stars and Stripes Funfest at the Southeast Expo Center at 4500 W. U.S. Highway 270. On Saturday, an indoor celebration is scheduled from 6-9 p.m. and the fireworks spectacular will begin at dusk, outdoors, of course.
